Default Transmission compatibility

I'm back with my slipping E4OD. Its been since december since I got the truck and it still runs and drives. The slip is just now starting to get worse. Thats fine I figured it was a lost cause. I am looking at transmissions as of now and I wanted to find out what E4OD trannys would bolt straight up to my truck. Its an Inline 6 so I figure one out of a similar equipped vehicle would be a good starting place, but could I use v8 E4ODs? Also if they were in a van does that mean they were scrunched or made in a different shape to accommodate the space they fit into? Oh and my current trans has the 17 bolt pan. Thanks in advance.

Sure you counted right there ? E4OD has 20 bolts, 4R70W has 14.
Anyway a v8 trans will work, if it's off a Windsor engine - 302, 351. Van should still be the same, I think. The only thing on a van that comes to mind is something about the tailshaft ? I don't know what exactly might be different there, maybe nothing; I just seem to recall something about that.
You want to stay in the same year because of electronics if you can and of course 2wd and 4x4 don't swap over.

George here. I own a 1995 Super Cab F150 LXT Lariat 4X4.

My Auto tranny went out on me. I wish to replace the auto with a manual. Anyone know where I can go for resources to match up engine to manual tranny?

Engine is the 5.0 302. Same engine in a 5.0 Mustang. Not looking to dump a bunch of $$ into her. Just looking for options to replace the auto with manual.

Thanks in advance,

George

Well, a tranny from a 4.9, 5.0 or 5.8 will fit (they all have the same trans bolt pattern and use the same clutch) but there's a bunch of nuisance stuff to dig up - clutch brake pedal setup, master cylinder and line, flywheel for your motor to replace your flex plate, engine/ trans separator plate, manual starter, a few wiring changes, gonna want a 95 302 manual computer; and there's a few more little things.
Gets way more involved than it was back in the 70's
