Default Transmission?

I have 1996 short bed Eddie Bauer edition f150 my reverse gear is out I have change of shift forks before but there is no shift fork for the reverse gear I was thinking about getting the whole thing rebuilt with a new clutch throwout bearing and pilot bearing. When I replace the shift forks before I took the number off the side of the transmission and took it to Ford and they told me it was a 1995 transmission keep in mind this truck is a mismatch of everything it's got a 1979 front end under it it's been converted back to carburetor etc.
From what I read they made an m5r2 two different types one for lightweight and one for more heavy.
I just know mine is a Mazda but I can't find the code on the side when I research F1TA GC c173675 I don't know if it a m5r2. Any suggestions and whether I should just buy a new one or take it somewhere let him drop it rebuild it put in a clutch pilot bearing and throw out bearing while they're there I just don't know what someone would charge.I see the m5r2 on summit for $1100 it looks like it doesn't have the top plate for the shifter and I'm sure a couple other things missing but still the main unit is there. Any information on what I should do and what transmission I have would be much appreciated thank you for your time and help.

Default Think I got it

Ok sorry everyone I think I got it, correct me if I'm wrong so MDO5 R2 is actually the same as M5R2 but I did notice some had a letter after for example M5R2-C or J ec..I'm not sure what the c or j means e there was like 12 different single letter but it doesn't appear to matter.

M5OD-R2 or M5R2 basically bowls down too

  • 1988–1996 Ford F-150 (4.9 L I6 and 5.0 L V8 engines)
  • 1987–1996 Ford Bronco (4.9 L I6 and 5.0 L V8 engines)
  • 1988-1989 Ford Econoline (4.9 L I6)
  • 1997–2008 Ford F-150 (4.2 L V6 and 4.6 L V8 engines)
  • 2006–2011 Ford Ranger/Mazda BT-50 (2.5/3.0 L I4 common rail turbocharged diesel engines)
  • 2007–2010 Ford Everest (2.5/3.0 L I4 common rail turbocharged diesel engines)
  • I was looking for a new one but obviously there aren't any new ones left they're too old so there are aftermarket new ones I see O'Reilly's or local parts store even has 12 of them but they are all out of stock and an oddball brand and only 1 was a manual that fit a small block Windsor 4x4 $1500 or so Summit has them around $1100 but plus shipping. So I'll probably find a reliable transmission place in hope they will rebuild it for around $800 the rebuild kits are only about $300 hopefully 8:00 to rebuild it I want a new clutch throughout bearing and pilot bearing when they're there but they may tell me to buy that and bring it to them.

You want to find a 88-96 M5OD replacement transmission. Later years had some differences. They are still reasonably priced and not yet hard to find at a recycler. Put new forks in it, clean it up, and run.
