Default Trans fluid types ???

I have a 1995 f-150 5.8 4sp. automatic
Dipstick says mercon on it.
I did a tranny service to it and they put in dexmerc
Does anyone forsee a problem or as I was told this can be used ???
Should I have it drained and filled with mercon ??

YES dexmerc can damage your transmission

Dexron III/Mercon was put into these transmissions for a very long time. It is simply a fluid that meets both specifications as they are fairly similar. Ford used that Mercon spec for a good 30 years before the addition of Mercon V in the late 90's. OBS trucks are specified to use Mercon but can also use the Mercon V. Do some more reading that fluid won't hurt a thing, I've used it on Older Fords for many years with zero problems.

The Yahoo answer isn't bad, it's just an 03 Ranger requires Mercon V and is completely different than our OBS trucks.

Yeah it gets a bit confusing.
The dipstick says MERCON on it NOT MERCON V.
I didn't notice that or I would have specified it.
They didn't have Mercon V when the 1995's were built from what I understand.
I'm thinking of researching a good "additive" to put in with it any suggestions ??

DEXiii/MERC is fine. Don't worry about it. ALso, if the trans is working like it should there's no reason to put any additives in it.

I use this Valvoline in my truck, my dad's 96, and every 80's or 90's f150 trans when I service them.

Dex/Merc transmission fluid will work just fine. Main thing is don't use cheap, store brand fluid.

Also, plain Mercon is obsolete and was superceded by Mercon V.

Dex/Merc........the "Merc" part represents Mercon.
