Default Thermostat Temperature

So I flushed my cooling system with prestone flush changed the thermostat and put coolant back in. Before I changed the thermostat my truck ran pretty cold always less than half way on the temp guage, but then when I switched the thermostat it's running hotter it goes up to three quarters and it fluctuates a lot more going from 1/2 to 3/4 constantly, I know it's not too hot but I'm wondering if maybe the old thermostat was stuck open because the truck heats up a lot faster too, also I don't know what the temp was on the old one but the new one is 195, please help I have read so many things about what temperature to use and I don't know what to

195 is the correct temperature. What brand thermostat did you get? Which engine do you have? Did you check to make sure the coolant level is still full?(when the engine is cool enough to safely do so).

I like Stant thermostats and OEM. If it was other than one of those two I would tell you you have a bad thermostat. I guess live with it that way or try an OEM thermostat. It does make a person kind of nervous when the gauge gets up to 3/4 even though it is not overheating. Maybe someone else will chime in with a comment.

ya it just use to regulate the temperature better I think cause the needle would get up to half way and just sit there for 95% of the time

If the temperature fluctuations started after the change, you may have some air trapped in the system. Mine runs between the 1/2-3/4 marks too.

Between 1/2 and 3/4 isn't a bad thing though right? Cause I infareded the thermostat housing and it was like 170 at halfway so 3/4 isn't even close to overheating it's probably right around the 190 ish area? ( I think) also shouldn't the system clear any small air bubbles itself I mean if there is a bubble it can't be that bad cause it's not overheating?

Your findings tell me your dash gauge is not that accurate and your thermostat is well calibrated. Coolant temperature entering the upper hose should be near the thermostat rating, maybe 5 degrees more. Myself, I do not get too alarmed with a gauge at 3/4's. It won't hurt anything unless you boil over. A 50/50 mix will boil at 265 degrees. As far as air pockets, a thermostat will not open properly if at all without a hot liquid behind it.
