Steering column woes
My 80 year old father has a 94 F150 5.0 E4od
2wd.
wont start. Not sure how he came to this collusion. However he was told he had to replace the steering column. Something about the switch on the column. Not the cylinder.
anyone else have an issue with steering column causing a no start issue, and had to replace entire column.
should this possibly be a repairable issue without trying to find another column.
it seems as though what I am coming across are refurbished columns.

Welcome to the site!
Not sure of any changes between my 89 and your 94, but the switch was mounted on the topside of the steering column, about above the brake pedal on mine. A long rod connected between this and the key cylinder near the steering wheel. Switch is easy enough to change out without messing with the column, other than loosening the column clamp a bit on the underside of the dash, and getting the alignment set right to coordinate between the key position (ACC-LOCK-OFF-ON-START) and the switch position before tightening the switch clamp back down.
A bad switch could cause many problems - no start, intermittent dying, and other weird stuff. But a no start could be caused by other things as well, so would be interested to understand how the switch was tagged as the culprit before agreeing that it needs changing.
At any rate, don't see that the column needs to be replaced for a bad switch.
