Default Re-Gearing?

My 1994 f250 is currently at 3.55's on 33's.

Considering going for 4.10's to help performance and mpgs. Anyone know how much it would set me back? Also it is 4x4 so I'd have to do the front as well.

Anyone done this before? I feel like 4.10's would beat 3.55's

Trying to wake my truck up before I consider buying a 2001 GMC 2500 with a 6.0 x,x

Yup, it would put you back to stock performance and mpg with 33s. It would perform like it did with the stock tire size is what I'm trying to say. Your looking at 500-600 for parts, and maybe 800 for labor. I plan on doing 4.10s with 31s here soon, but me and a friend are going to do it, so it's a bit cheaper to do then taking it to a shop.

Quite the project i'd imagine. So you think a shop quote of 1400$ for my front and rear done would be fair? I'm guessing its cheaper than swapping a D60 in the front with 4.10's and regearing the rear.

Appreciate the response btw!

I'm also trying to calculate how many miles I've gotta drive in regards to even getting that back in fuel. Locked hubs in winter is junk, I get 250kms with both tanks @ 140$ per fill up

Idk about the Dana 60s being cheaper or not, but is $1400 with parts? If so it sounds dead on.

It would take about 40,000 miles to recoup the cost if you get two mpg average better. But you'll have more power and its better for your transmission

around my area a D60 is around 1k with all the stuff needed to do the swap. then you gotta pay to install it or do it yourself, a local shop installs the D60 for around $250 if you have all the stuff.

id buy axles from a wrecking yard, where im at you can get the whole rear axle and the front housing for $300 and you get a 60 day warranty.

also i dont think iv ever seen a picture of your truck kev?

THanks guys, I've got an E40D so I'm just kind of sketched on if the 3.55's with 33's is going to roast it or anything. Besides it being a heavier truck these trannies always seem to have a lunge to me.

Considering my options if 1400$ is worth it. And I haven't gone shopping yet - it's an idea currently I just wanted a base price to aim for if not lower would be nice.

Also this is my truck:

I am not sure what mpg is but in winter I'm getting 250 kms per two tanks - which is putting me off from getting a lift. I want to have a truck, not a mortgage.

one of my hyper-miler theories is putting a bit of fuel in the front tank so the lines don't crap out and just using the rear tank - less weight.

Holy crap that thing sucks gas. Something has to be wrong with it. What engine do you have. That's 4.3 mpg or 6.9 kilometers per gallon. That would be low even for the 460. Any check engine lights on? And as the e4od, at least the newer ones are pretty tough, I would have among the best ones being that my truck is a 96, so it's not to bad. Original, and 157,000 miles and shifts great, have a few sensor issues though. I think they updated it in 92? Then 94 and 96.

For one, You need to figure your actual fuel mileage. Fill a tank up.... Drive till you've used 3/4 of it, fill it up... Divide miles you went by gallon it took to fill it back up.

Make sure you have no leaks in the tanks or lines. 1400 for front and rear gears isn't too bad. Its usually around 700 a differential.

nice looking truck. and the PO towed with my truck with 33s and 3.55 gears and the transmission is fine in mine.

and yea, your MPG is hella low if that is even close to right, you should be getting atleast 10.
