Default Question on Transfer Case (MLPS?)

Hey guys... I was off road last winter and somehow Group of wires that apparently end at a connector between the t-case and transmission came loose. The wire running back to it from the front end must have got around the front drive shaft since it got ripped clean off. Now I have four wires dangling and a female connector with nothing plugged into it between the t-case and tranny. At first I thought it was just for the 4wd light as it is no longer lighting up, but now I’m guessing it is for the manual lever position sensor, maybe? It is a 92 f150 with the 4.9l, 5 speed, and manual 4x4 with manual hubs. Went to the junk yard to look for connectors today, but out of a dozen f150s, none had the same four wire connector, probably because most had electric transfer cases. I’ll update with some pics shortly... just not sure how to rewire this... whether I can just buy pins and wire it manually without a connector, and if so, how I figure out which wire goes where.

Default Pics

here are some pics that hopefully can help illustrate what I’m talking about. The wires are grouped together in a sheath of four, running right along the driver’s side frame rail alongside the larger group of wires headed to the rear (brake lights and such, I’m guessing). The next pic is of the four wires inside, then of the dangling connector on the transmission by the t-case, and finally of the existing side of the connector. It is a female 4-wire round connector, but it only has two wires going out of it, which then meet at the transmission to the sensor (if that is what it is!).

Only an electronic automatic transmission would have a MLPS.

Identify wires by their colors. You can look up your truck's wiring diagrams free here (you don't have to give your real e-mail):
http://www.bbbind.com/free_tsb.html
Click the WIRING DIAGRAMS button when you see it.

Look up functions by wire color on this & the NEXT several pages:

Pu/Or is commonly keyed power or EEC power; Bk/Pk is commonly the reverse light circuit. So my guess is that the reverse switch on the trans shifter cover is what got ripped loose (probably by a branch you drove over). If you can't find the connector at the link in this caption, try reading (or searching - CTRL+F) down the caption:

Once you have the WPT number, Google it, and check your local parts stores & Ford dealers.

Also, read this caption:

Those are a lot of wire colors! A lot of repeats too, though. Thanks for the links. Considering I can see the plug that is missing it’s connector, the mystery is limited, as I know where the wires are supposed to go. What would plug into that part of the tranny on this truck? Considering it is manual with a manual transfer case too... I can’t imagine those wires do much more than light the 4wd indicator. If I knew what the purpose of that plug in the tranny was I might even be able to find pics of the original male end of the plug that is missing and just fab something up similar to work. Would the reverse switch cause the 4wd indicator to stop working? (Not sure if I mentioned it before, but I get no light when in 4wd since this ripped off... and a branch on the road makes sense... was in a couple rough spots earlier that day).

*I should note as well, given the manufacturer code link in the previous post, that the trans is the Mazda M5OD*

On a manual transmission there will be no MLPS present.

The wires you see there are for the 4x4 lights, and most likely the backup lights. Those would be the only wires running to the transmission/transfer case on a manual transmission truck.
