Default Question regarding flushing trans from return line

I plan on changing the filter/fluid in my E4OD soon. My plan is to drain the pan, change the filter, fill the pan then start flushing the old fluid from the return line while replacing new fluid through the dipstick. My question of this. Will the new fluid (Mercon V) end up being mixed with the old (Mercon) or will fluid from the converter go to the radiator first before the new fluid from the pan?

What Year? does it have a TQ Converter Drain Plug, On my 91 I simply removed the pan, pulled the TQ Converter plug then used compressed air to blow out the cooler and lines. Reassembled, put in 2 gallons and started up then filled remaining I think about 3.5 to 4 gallons total; It's been a while....

But to answer your question I think you will be mixing fluid because I don't believe 100% of fluid is routed through the cooler each time; the trans moves fluid internally also.

It's a 94 and it does have a TQ drain plug. I just didn't want to go through the PITA time to keep bumping the starter, get under the truck, bump the starter, get under the truck, ext. Maybe I'll just stick with Mercon to ensure nothing is mixed.

Draining the TQ Converter is the best way to do it.
You have a couple options:
- Enlist the help of a friend to bump over for you.
- get a remote starter switch - something like:

- use a ratchet and socket to turn the crank over....

So if I drain the TQ in addition to the pan what's left, just whats in the cooler lines? Would that be safe enough to switch out to MV without much mixing?

Yes,
Just what is in the cooler and lines and some residual throughout the trans.
Refilling with MV would be recommended. What little remains would not cause any issues.
