89 f150 4x4, so today I put my truck in 4x4 drive to the back of my property to pick up a trailer full of firewood. while still in four wheel drive I put it in reverse
, no go just makes a terrible grinding noise. Put it in 2wd and reverse works just fine. What gives, anyone know.. thanks

 

Very strange. Doesn't sound like a transmission issue. Might be time to shop for a deal on a transfer case.

 

Any other ideas. Don't understand why 4wd would work in drive but not reverse.
I guess a trip to the shop for diagnosis and $$$
