Default No Power under load.

Ok first I would like to say how great this site is. I haven't posted much but I come here often.
I've searched all over and haven't found a solution to my problem. any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 94 5.0 xlt 4x4 5sp. over the past month the engine has been slowly loosing power. Now the old girl will hardly run at all. While driving the other night something in my engine bay started making terrible noises that would increase if i pushed the throttle, and I lost tons of power. seemed to me it was coming from the front of the engine. after letting it idle for 10 min I drove it home. noise had stopped but I noticed a decrease in acceleration and power.

So the next morning I tried to drive to work. got a few blocks and it fell on its face, rpms wont reach 1500 before bucking and bogging down. I could only reach 25mph in fourth gear.

Engine light has not come on. will rev up in neutral after searching this site and google Im leaning towards blocked cat, bad tps, or bad fuel filter.
also my power steering has been leaking. so maybe the noise was a bad bearing?? I added fluid and the noise gradually faded away. So might not be related to power loss?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank you

Check fuel pressure, check for codes anyway. To me it sounds like a clogged cat.

Power steering pumps make a very loud growling noise when low on fluid so I'm guessing that was your noise.

definitely check fuel pressure. MAP could also be going bad.

bad cats usually stink. quick way to rule it out, unbolt the y-pipe at the mani's.

That may be quick for some people if they don't have too much rust, I changed my y pipe and 3 of the 4 studs snapped off at the manifolds, nothing quick about that!!

Ok thanks guys. Its completely bogging down now even in neutral so I changed the fuel filter and put in a bottle of sea foam but that didn't help. Ill check the fuel pressure tomorrow. checked for codes, found one but don't think its relevant to the problem.

just wondering is there a separate pump for each tank? I switched to the rear tank and that didn't help so does that rule out a bad fuel pump?

Yes, each tank has it's own pump. What code did you get? Sounding more and more like a clogged up converter. That chokes the engine out quite a bit.
