Default Intermittent Fuel Pump

Monday:
I started my truck to go to work and no issues.
I left for lunch and again, no issues.
Early afternoon I went outside for a smoke and decided to start my truck for some heat and she wouldn't start. I attempted it several times and no luck.
About 4-5hrs later I left work and decided to try it again before I called for a ride and she fired right up. I went to the gas station incase it was simply bad gas and then home with no issues.

Tuesday:
She started right up again and drove to work.
I had to go about 30min down the road to pick some stuff for work up. I stopped at 2 different places and she started right up each time. That is until the 3rd stop. Not starting... I had to wait about an 1hr for a co-worker to come get me and during that time I checked the relay and fuses and all checked ok.
I called my local AZ to check the price on a new pump and explained what had happened so far and he said that it sounded like the fuel pressure regulator. I had a buddy take me to get the part and to my truck. Ofcourse I tried to start it first to no avail. We changed the part (25*F btw) and before putting the new one on I attempted to start it again to see if fuel was being pumped and nothing. We put the part on and tried again and nothing.

Wednesday:
Had a tow truck meet me at my truck and ofcourse I tried it again and she didn't start. I had it towed home and tried again... IT STARTED!

Thursday:
I tried to start it again to go to work and nothing.
I tried again once I got home and nothing.

Friday:
I tried again to go to work and nothing.
I tried again when I got home and nothing.

I have been told the filter is stopped and the sediments settle and that allows it to start. I have been told the line might be clogged. I have been told the ground on the pump may have a bad connection.

To be honest, I have never had a pump act intermittently like this except on my 90MY Jaguar but it was external and the intermittency was cause by overheating. Once the pump cooled it worked until it overheated again, which only took 20-30 minutes. But with minutes, hours and days being between the successful starts on my truck, I doubt it's from overheating.

Has anyone had this intermittent issue before on thier F150's? If so, what was the problem? Where is the pump ground located?

I had a similar problem with mine, less than a year after replacing the fuel pump. I replaced several things: fuel filter, ignition parts, but finally decided to change the fuel pump, and since haven't had any problems

That's what I did. It's been about 2wks now and I haven't had an issue.

Just an FYI to anyone about to replace the fuel pump... It's easier to slide the bed off to get to the pump than to drop the tank. I was able to pull the bed off by myself but I would recommend having someone to help.
