1990 f150, 4x4, 5.0L, AOD

Hello all! My truck accelerates (vroom, vroom, vroom) until it splats/burps and turns off when at a stop or idling

It runs okay.

How do I troubleshoot idling issues?

First thing I'd do is attempt to pull codes, even if there is no check engine light on, you still might get something. If no codes are found, try checking things like fuel pressure and ignition timing.

 

^^^ In addition, the IAC of Gen8 (87-91) had some issues with fouling, usually resulting in erratic idling. Easy to take off for inspection, and to clean with carb cleaner if needed, just to cross that off the list. Hasn't been a problem part, usually quite reliable, but are getting to the age where failure is a possibility.

 

I have ordered a new one, since I believe the one on there is the original. Will post updates. BTW - I have changed the MAP and EGR sensor, valve. THis has improved how the engine runs quite a bit.
