Unhappy Help! Transmission Issues

I have a 1995 f150 i6 with a manual 5 speed trans. Since I got the truck I could not shift directly into first from a dead stop or it would grind, I would have to shift into second then first every time. Today it was very hard to shift from a dead stop into any gear including reverse and would grind half the time. The transmission is only 50 k on it or so. What is going on and what can I do to fix it? Please help

If I had to guess I would say the clutch is perhaps not disengaging all the way. I believe there is an adjustment to make sure it throws all the way out.

No adjustment for the clutch, all hydraulic. Does the pedal feel the same pumping it or is it getting sloppy? Check the reservoir level under the hood next the the brake master cylinder and if its low, you have a leak and likely the clutch slave cylinder inside the bell housing. Look under the truck and look for any dripping brake fluid around the transmission.

To temporarily fix the problem, fill the reservoir and try pumping up the clutch quickly and repeatedly till its gets firmer.

Thanks guys. Quick update... I filled the reservoir which was low and pumped the clutch now it is super easy to get into gear. Can't spot any leaks. Still grinds going into first from a dead stop tho. Have to go second then first to get it in gear.

You can remove the inspection plug on the side of the transmission and shine a flashlight inside, look at the clutch slave and see if its wet with brake fluid.
