so my dad bought a 98 expedition, with a 5.4 eddie bauer edition with a bad transfer case, we have a new one need to put in this weekend he is wondering if its in 2hi and has smaller tires on front, if we can leave front driveshaft off til we get tires on it or if it will wear out the trans case, i personally dont see why he wants to take the chance, seems to me like if all shafts are spinning less chance to to screw up, thoughts???

 

If it wasn't in 2wd, that's when you should pull the drive shaft. But it being in 2wd will do nothing. It would be, on an exaggerated scale, like driving on a dyno.
