Default Engine swap

Hey guys, hope all is well with everyone!
I have a 1994 F150 with a 4.9L. I would like to swap it out for a V8. Now, do I have to change any computers? I'd like to keep the same ignition and keys. Also, will I have to change the transmission and or rear axle gears?? I'd like to keep it simple, but I know there's always something that needs to be swapped out. Please message me if you need any additional information.
Thanks everyone for your help!,

Robert

Well there's a lot that depends on what you plan on doing. If you go for one of the v8s that came stock in that truck, then the only major things you have to change is going to be the entire wiring harness, ecu, and exhaust. Things like the transmission will bolt up fine.
But what exactly do you want to accomplish with the swap? Going with a 5.0 is going to have a little bit better horsepower, but you are gonna lose out in torque. A 5.8l is an option, but the results you will get from an engine swap really isnt enough to make up for all the hassle.

Hey Shagg, I do have an engine that was an option motor. I want the horsepower now versus the torque. It used to be a work truck, pulled a one ton water tank around for a few years and now I just want to have a V8. I figured as much on the transmission. I have 4 F150s, I love the old body styles! One of the trucks is strictly a donor truck that has the engine I want to use.

If the donor truck is same year, same transmission everything is a direct swap.

I believe the donor truck is a 1993, my truck is a 1994. The 1994 has a 4.9L, the donor has the V8.
Shagg brought up needing to change the wiring harness. He also stated transmission should be good to directly bolt up. My 94 has the overdrive transmission in it. Now, besides the wiring harness, what about the CPU? Any other electronic components y'all can think of? Thanks for helping this old guy out.

Robert Oldham,
You still haven't provided enough information about both trucks for anyone to answer your questions in the detail that you are looking for. In short, if both trucks use the same transmission you can use the V8 engine / wiring harness / ECU, etc. If both do not have the same transmission you are going to need a complete wiring harness / ECU from a 1994 V8 F150 in order for everything to work correctly.

While I don't want one myself, the 4.9 is a great engine that will run forever and be rock solid reliable for all of that time. If it is in good condition I wouldn't want to mess up a good running combination.

I agree on the 4.9L being a great engine. I'm the second owner and have taken care of her. She was a great work truck, but now that she isn't, I want a V8, I'm tired of the no horsepower. I have 3 other trucks for pulling. I will post more information as I find it out. In the mean time thank you for your help, that's why people post questions on forums so they can find out what information to ask for, look for and provide. It's not that I knew all the answers and just posted an open ended question for giggles lol.
Thank you for your help, that was solid information that I was wanting to know!
