Default E4OD and electrical gremlins...HELP!

Ok..here goes...
I have a 1992 F150 4x4 with a 5.0 and a E4OD. I am having the #624 code when doing a KOEO wire jump on diagnostic port. The truck will sometimes act like it's freewheeling when in drive after it comes to a stop. If you manually shift to 2nd or 1st she will move again. After shutting truck off and turning back on it will work fine in drive again. There is no flashing OD light. I have replaced the MLRP/TR sensor with a Ford unit..new pigtail and triple checked wiring . Filter and fluid have been changed as well as new Ford solenoid pack with new pigtail and wiring is correct. Originally a KOEO test with a friend's old snap on scanner yielded that the truck could not verify it is in park.. engine will also crank in any gear position. Not just park or neutral. I removed computer and cleaned connector. While connector was off I back probed the two sensors wires going to the range selector switch..the ohms on my DVOM all fell within Ford spec..which means the switch and wiring is all good. My question is where do I go next? Also can a bad computer cause all this? I'm mostly confused about the engine being able to crank in all shifter positions...does the neutral safety go through the PCM? Thank you all for the patience and help!!

Interestingly enough the truck cranks over with no MLPS plugged in?? What in the world?

This may sound strange but check wiring on the light above the back window. Many years ago I was having weird shift/electrical problems with my 92 e40d and it was a bad ground on that light.
