Default E4od?

Well I believe a E4OD shifts great 1-2 but when it comecomes to 3rd or OD some times is a little tricky but do not know if it's in 3rd or OD but when I let off the throttle it drops out of lock up and I'm forced to use 2nd to get back up to speed enough to shift again and same thing on the high way 65-70mph with rpm at about 2500 also the speedometer bounces around depending on the speed or acceleration any information will be greatly appreciated should I sell the truck/manual swap ?????

Does your truck stall when stopped in gear? Hate to say it, but my 93 was doing the same thing shortly before my torque converter and transmission went out... I wonder if it's one of the common e4od issues

e4ods have valve body issues, im going to guess that the truck hesitates when shifted into reverse, and you are beginning to notice a slightly harder shift into 2nd. this is caused by the valves in the valve body to woller out there holes and allow atf to flow past the valve making a harder shift or hesitation. I just replaced the valve body in my e40d and it fixed that exact problem. if you go to sonnax and look at a re-manufactured valve body it will show fixing these problems but i hope this helps you before it causes any permanent damage to your transmission.

The E4OD is an electronically controlled Transmission.

First I would check for Codes.... The MLPS sensor, "Range Sensor" may be acting up to cause that in third or fourth.

If your speedometer is bouncing around it will cause your transmission to think it is not doing that speed and shift gears....

Second, fix the Speedometer bouncing issue. This can be caused by a bad VSS sensor connected to the top of the rear end and or wiring connection that goes to that sensor. Also, the PSOM which is the speedometer may have to be replaced buy very rarely this happens. Also, the gear that is pressed on to the differential carrier may be chipped and its sending false signals to the VSS sensor that is causing the speedometer to bounce..... To test that you have to pull the differential cover off and inspect each tooth on that gear. If there is a ding, bent tooth, or sharp edges not normally there it will cause the speedo to bounce.

I would clean all the connections. The ones on the side of the transmission and the one on the rear end. Check all the wiring to make sure its in good condition. Also, check for codes.

Do you have a link to the valve body you bought? I've got an inconsistent 1-2 firm shift and I was thinking about replacing mine. I would rather buy already built though rather than rebuilding it myself.

Here is the one i bought for my transmission. you can not order it from the website. i bought mine from A & Reds transmissions out of wichita along with a separator plate gaskets. i took down all three of my valve bodies and replaced the gaskets. the transmission works better now but it still has a slightly firmer shift than factory but everything else works better. This sonnax reman valve body has the sonnax fix kit installed with a different manual shift valve to correct other e4od problems.
this is the fix kit that is installed

The valve body and separator plate gaskets cost me about 250-260 i cant remember exactly then you have to purchase 18 quarts of fluid and flush solvent, which i used a BG flush kit and flush machine at the shop. the complete job cost me $600 but i have a student discount at my shop.
