Default The displays' lying...

I have an auto trany in my 96 and I've been having trouble getting it into the right gear. The stick seams very loose, and I'll try to shift into drive, and the needle will be dead center of the "D" but it'll really be in 2nd. And the same with reverse and neutral. Is there a way to tighten it up? Thanks!

If you remove the bezel you'll see the wire that goes under the steering column. If you follow it down from where it begins on the right side of the column you'll come to white plastic piece that screws into the column. Sometimes this comes loose. Depending on your truck it may or may not have an adjustment wheel. I'm not certain if all trucks has that adjustment wheel.

Also, this is what its like on my 1993 and should apply to all 92-96 (i think). If you're truck is pre 1992 none of the above may apply.

My '88 does the same thing. I haven't taken it apart yet to see how to fix it yet.

FOUND IT! It was the two star shaped screws under the steering column, where the shifting rod attach es to the plate.
