Default Is conversion kit required for automatic to manual hubs?

I'm getting manual hubs to replace the automatic ones on my 1994 F-150. On the sales page of the hubs it says a conversion kit is necessary. Specifically part Mile Marker 95-32720. Is this really necessary? The kit looks almost exactly like what is already in the wheel when I took out the defective automatic hubs. Thank you.

1994 f-150 w/5.8 v8.

How many screws hold on the caps for your current auto hubs?

Exactly what "defect" did you find in the autos? Post pics.

It's possible someone already changed the bearing adjusting nut(s) - post pics of what you have.

You should put ALL the truck's details & history (as much as you know) into your signature so it shows with each post, as this page explains:

Phone apps don't always show signatures, so you may need to switch to a real browser in desktop mode on your phone, or just use a desktop/laptop computer. Put your location (nearest city) in your profile & upload an avatar of the truck. The more pics you post (NOT in your sig) of the truck, engine, wiring, labels, & undercarriage, the more likely we can help you. Not all its details are relevant to these issues, but you don't necessarily know which ones are relevant, so just put everything in now.

The automatic hubs are frozen - rusted. I discovered that if I the cover has five screws you don't need the conversion kit. I think that changed in '95.

Rust is not a defect - it's a result of neglect. In ~30 years of working on these trucks & browsing JYs across the continent, I've found a total of ONE pair (out of probably 3 dozen) of auto hub locks that were truly ruined. All the others worked fine after disassembly & cleaning. Even the rusty ones.

Yes, I tried to get them unfrozen but haven't had much luck so I just decided to convert to manual. I may try to get them unstuck again but for now I'll go with manual. Thanks for the response.
