Default Code 628 after highway drivin

Took my truck (95 5.0 auto) on a 4 hour round trip drive today and after the first hour I noticed the Overdrive OFF light flashing. It drove fine, other than not going into overdrive. It also was sluggish when accelerating from a stop, kinda like when when you ride the clutch on a stick. So I got home and checked the codes and got 628, excessive TC slippage. It has that sluggish feel sometimes when I drive around town and I’ve noticed before that the transmission will drop out of OD on the highway with no change in road grade. Any suggestions?

It doesn't look good. Sounds like your torque converter is on its way out.Could also be a hydraulic pressure problem with the pump which is not good either but less likely.

I'm getting code 628 after freeway driving, but with zero symptoms, except hard shifts after. No lights flashing, engine runs perfedct...I understand the system only monitors TC in OD, so when I clear the code, and turn OD off, it shifts perfect. When running content speed, I tap brakes and can see on the tach the TC release, so i knpw itsveorking...i just changed the VSS w a Motorcraft unit...
I dunno what to think...all posts on 628 talk about other symptoms along with it. I have zero symptoms, just the resulting hard shifts. Thoughts on this?
