Default Clunk clunk

I got a 95 f150 5.0 4x4 auto tranny. It doesn't want to go in to drive or reverse i have to play with it a bit to get it to stick in gear. And when i go in reverse i hear a loud clanking noise. It used to just be a squeak when i was in reverse but its not evolved into this. I don't know anything about transmissions, so any ideas guys?

I had the needle bearings rust out in a u-joint. It started as a squeak and turned into a clunk. You could check that.
