Accelerate
1996 F150 s/c 4X4 5.0 liter V8 hesitates when idling. On the initial crank it Idles very low, 650 rpm's and during accelerate it will putter. When driving it won't stay running unless you take your foot off the gass. If you accelerate it will stall out. Any clues guys this truck hasn't been on the road since last year. I'd sure like to get it ready for hunting season🤠
Suggest to first get the codes pulled - should be OBDII, so most chain parts stores will have the reader and will pull 'em for free.
WAG (wild-arsed guess) would be either the throttle position sensor (TPS) or the idle air control solenoid (IAC) - but recommend to verify before replacing either.
Another thought is bad gas - recalling an incident with a carbureted Jeep that sat for two years, had to dance between feathering and flooring the gas to keep it running, later draining the fuel tank resembled something closely related to varnish in both smell and color.

I pulled the codes, cleaned and tapped on the IAC piston, tested IAC with and without plugging in the switch, no difference. It makes a big hissing noise coming from the breather, like it's choking.. The codes aren't very helpful. Anyone with a' 96 with that problem?
Well what are the codes?
