Default 94 automatic transmission

HI, I hope someone might be able to give me some input. I have a 94 4x4 5.8l w/auto transmission. It now lives on the Baja penisula in mexico. Most people drive a standard transmission so its hard to find a place to bring it. I love this truck, its lives 20 miles out on a dirt road from town. It revs before it will shift into gear. Once in gear it is fine until it needs to shift again, then it revs and bangs into gear. This is intermittent. If I turn the truck off, sometimes it seems to reset itself. My machanic down there is a great machanic but won't touch an automatic trans. I am planning on bring down a filter and gaskit to change the fluid. My brother thinks maybe the transmission vaccum sensor but he always has new trucks. ANy suggestions on any parts or sensors I might bring down to get my machanic to replace. This is turning into a huge hassle due to the lack of tranny people there. Other than this rather new problem the truck runs great. Thanks, Greta

its probably your neutral safety switch which is located on the drivers side of the transmission

I recently starting getting an ABS light on my 94 ford f150xl, 300 straight 6, well I replaced the variable speed sensor and it worked beautiful for a day. Well I went to a local ford dealer and paid twice the price for the same sensor but OEM. It works like a charm. I have had your problem for years and replaced several mlps (formally neutral safety switch) to no avail. Try the VSS, but get from ford dealer.

Thanks,
I'll pick that up. We head to mx oct 9. I'm just going to bring stuff down there. I can usually do basic work myself , but my other half is afraid if i mess something up we are stranded 20+ miles out of town on a dirt road. Sounds easy though

I had similar issues when the trans fluid was low. Check it and fill with the right stuff.

I had a similar issue with my 94 when i got it a couple of months ago. I'm not certain but it was one of two things.

I replaced the speed sensor on the rear end but there was no change.

Intuition told me it was a power issue because the transmission is shifted electronically. It really didn't know when to shift because one of the circuits that comes into play was powered down.

Long story short i tracked it to a blown fuse in the fuse box. After the burnt out fuse was replaced everything came to life and haven't had a problem with it since.

Check the fluid because that is the most common cause. If that doesn't pan out check all of your fuses. It might be a simple fix.
