Default 92 M5OD 4x4 clattering trans.

I am getting ready to have this trans rebuilt due to loss of synchronizers in all but 3 and 5 and a possible spun pilot bearing, but today after cruising down I-20 at 70mph, (355 gears on 285 70 r 17s) I heard a repetitive clunking sound. It matches wheel speed when clutched and is steady at idle, but nowhere to be found when driving in gear. I think I have to park it till I can afford the 2000 rebuild bill. Any comments on what exactly this could be??? I kind think pilot bearing..... If so I can swap it out in an afternoon and still keep saving for rebuild and enjoying my truck.
