8.8 mini spool purchase recommendations and install tips
There appear to be many manufacturers and even some multi-piece designs for a mini spool to fit in my open carrier 31 spline 8.8 Ford axle. Does anyone have actual experience with a particular brand or design they would care to share?
Prices are all over the place, from a low on ebay for $29, on up over $100 elsewhere.
From what I can gather searching online, it looks like the install does NOT require the carrier to be removed. Is that correct?
Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

It doesn't see pavement more than a couple times a month and likely less than 25 miles when it does. It is all back in the woods making firewood for my outdoor boiler. Tires and turning are not an issue in my situation. I am not a fan of welding up the whole carrier with spiders and all, I want to keep things reversible in case my situation changes.

As far as I know a mini spool just replaces the spider gears.

It's a Canadian thing eh!
Spools replace the spider and side gears, just be prepared for the fact you will chew up tires and might twist/break and axle shaft.

broke white boy
i've ran welded spiders in farm trucks before, and they do a great job,
if you were looking to use them in a fun offroad rig where you planned on playing in rocks and mud I wouldnt recommend, but since your just trying to putt through the woods to get fire wood you will be fine.
and I applaud you for actually going for a drop in, most (like me lol) would just weld them.
and it will be just fine driving on the street (for the amount you plan on doing)
your not going to notice much difference in tire wear(your going to have some, but not as much as spinning a tire because you got stuck.
