Default 5 speed question

Hi, I just purchased a 1996 f-150 with the 300 I-6 and the 5 speed manual. I have been taking care of a couple small issues. Today I see a rubber hose coming off the top of transmission to the right side, that connects to a metal tube which currently is just resting on the catalytic converter. Is that a vent tube? How is it supposed to be mounted? Is it supposed to connect to anything? Thank you in advance for the help.

Where does the tube route to? As far as I know I've never seen a vent tube on the M5OD before or do you mean the air tube for the smog pump to the catalytic converter? Have a picture of it?

Ok, your right it is not from the transmission instead from the engine. Where is it supposed to be mounted and where does it go to? I know the previous owner had replaced the bed, maybe he didn't reconnect it. In the image below you can see the transmission on the right the tube I am talking about is center of photo. Thank you.

Thats the air pump tube, it goes from the air diverter valve under the hood to the exhaust pipe between the first and second catalytic converter. Often the tubes rot off and people weld up the hole to fix the exhaust leak.

So I can have the hole on the exhaust welded and just mount the pipe out if the way or remove it all together? It won't throw any CEL's or cause any other issues will it? Thank you again for the help.
