If you have the full vin its place number 8 in the vin. "To determine the year a 5.0 engine was made, the most reliable way is to check the vehicle's Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), specifically the 8th digit, which usually corresponds to the model year, particularly for Ford "Coyote" 5.0L engines where the 8th digit indicates the generation and therefore the approximate production year; consult a VIN decoder for accurate information based on your specific vehicle."

unfortunately im not the one that pulled it from the vehicle. so i dont have the whole vin number. just those numbers off the block. from my search those those are the last 8 digits of the vin. the first number in this set is suposed to be the year (aka 10th digit). next suposed to be assembly plant, (11th digit). the next six numbers (12,13,14,15,16,17 digits)production sequence number. im just not sure what the 10th digit (#1) stands for

The last six of a vin are supposed to be a letter, and five numbers. What you found has six numbers, which does not correlate with a vin number. Is this just a bare long block? Or does it have accessories and manifolds on it? Is there an id sticker on a valve cover?

That page is for a modern VIN, This is how '87-'96 VIN numbers are set up.

So if the numbers you see are from a VIN, then the engine didn't come from a truck that this subforum covers. But I think 1980, 1977, and all pre-73 model year VINs used six numbers as the last part of the VIN as well. So it could be an older block. For those year VINs, it would be 11 digits, and that first "1" in the number you found would be the position of the engine id code, but Ford uses a letter for engine id, so that doesn't correlate either.
What are the casting numbers on that block? If it has cylinder heads, what are the casting numbers on them? Maybe car VINs are set up differently than truck VINs.
