I have the opportunity to buy a 3.55 LS out of a '95 4x4 donor. The problem is that the current owner never had it in a running truck and isn't sure about the condition. He's asking $150. I currently have a 3.55 Open Diff and would like the upgrade but I don't "have" to have it. Anyone have an idea of what it's worth? Thanks

 

No doubt that it would be worth 150 if it's not all chewed up inside.
Whether you want to just use it as it is without putting in new clutches, side & spider gears etc. is a gamble.
I'd at least want to think about pulling the diff cover and rotate the gears to look for any broken bits in the main gears and side / spiders. or anything badly worn.

He shouldn't object being he has no idea if it's any good either. It's not like you're asking to rip the oilpan off his truck before you buy it.
