Default 1996 Flaws???

I'm looking into buying a 96 F150. I was wandering if there are any things I should look out for. I'm not familiar with that year so any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Same as buying any vehicle, look at the mileage, body condition, overall maintenance, cleanliness, has it been certified recently and is it still insured for a test drive etc. If you know a good shop, have them look at it before buying it. Most places will do free brake and suspension inspections and you can look for yourself under it while its up on the hoist.

96 is the first generation of OBD II (On-Board-Diagnostics V.2) that all vehicle up to today use for codes and trouble shooting and is very informative and a huge step more efficient then the previous versions, so thats a bonus.

fuel pumps.
if your looking at a 4.9l then the lifter cover on the side of the block leaks,

frame rivets on the engine crossmember, and around the steering gear box.

radius arm bushings, axle pivot bushings,

headlight switches going out.

PITA to hold an alignment.

Thanks for the info.

The truck is an extended cab, long bed, 194k, 351, pace setter headers, true dual flowmaster exhaust, ford racing tune up kit, 3" lift. The body and interior are great, no rust, no rips. It also comes with a Thumper cam and a timing chain and I think he has gears for it also.
