Default 1994 automatic

Talking to a guy who has a1994 302 automatic. Truck is in really good shape except something wrong....he says it lunges in drive...and will kill itself in reverse. On gavel, if he kinda forces it into reverse it will go. But once the truck catches up to tire speed he says it will die, at least that's his he described it, makes no sense to me. Any ideas? He replaced the fluid snd filter in transmission....can you do something to torque converter? Common issues? Anything? Anyone?

I would have said fluid and filter but you say he changed those. You could try pulling codes and see what pops up. If you can check it yourself and see how it acts and come back here with your own description of what happens. Make note of any noises or smells that seem unusual (metallic clanging/banging, burnt oil smell, etc.) while you check stuff. Ask if he drained the torque converter when he did the F/F change. Also, just to be 100% sure, get the transmission code from the door sticker on the drivers side and ask if its still the stock transmission and if not what it was replaced with.

An easy way for you to identify is with this

I will add it was serviced religiously st the dealership, has been in storage the past two years, think it ran fine when it went in, acted up when taken out. He drove it 80 miles, no smells or anything. I would bed too drive about 70 , miles to get it home. Says going forward it does find driving down the road, but you can talk every once in a while it's trying to do"something" and st a stop in drive, really have to hold with the brake kinda hard it will want to push ya forward. Sitting for two years men anything to anyone? Wondering if something might be sick somewhere that might unstuck itself...or...I'm thinking torque converter. Is that an expensive fix to replace?
