Default 1992 F150 4X4 Regearing Question

Currently putting a 4" RC lift on a 92 F150. I already bought 4:56 gears for it. Was planning on putting 35" tires on it. Will 33" tires be to small for this gear set-up? I haven't bought the tires yet. Please advise. Thank you

Eh, depends on your preference. A 4.56 ratio with 33-inch tires would be about the same as a 4.00 ratio with the stock tires. Kinda steep, but don't really see any showstopping issues.

The engine RPM with the 33s and 4.56 will be about 15% higher at a given speed over the assumed factory stock 3.55 with original tires, or 2000rpm with original ratio and tires would be 2300rpm with the 4.56 and 33s.

Thanks for the info. That's what a buddy was telling me a little bit ago. Should be good to go. Like he said he's not building it for speed, more around town and some highway.

Get the 35's.
One bit of advice; don't buy aggressive mud tires. They look real good - they ride like total crap anywhere but in the mud,
Something along the lines of BFG All terrain T/A's would be about right.

Also depends on engine and trans. A 300 without o/d may not like it much on the highway if you drive a ton of highway. But a 302 with o/d would still be slightly steep but would be nice and peppy feeling. I'd say it would be fine then. I like my 351 with my 32 inch tires and 4.10 gears. I do have an e4od so I have o/d. It's a nice and tourqy set up.

Thanks for the feedback. My son was stuck on 33 x 12.5 R15. We'll see how it does. I went with the BF Goodrich Ko2's. Pic attached.

Nice. I wish I didn't have the 3.08 gear ratios

I think I paid about $1000 for the parts front and rear. Will have to change the front to match. If you plan on keeping the truck buy some gears for it.
