I'm trying to replace the rotors on my 1996 F150 4x4. What I'm seeing after removing the locking hub cap, isn't what I see on line or in my repair book. I don't see an ring on the outside or screw holding in the inner spring and locknut. I don't see a locking ring on the inside either. I'm guessing the owner before swapped out the original. Any Suggestions?
Any suggestions?
On the outside of the aluminum hub body, there is a round metal spring steel ring in a groove
That ring needs to be removed with your pick tool
Go around the groove with the pick until you find the slot and start there
Good luck
Thanks for the responses. After posting, I kept cleaning grease out and found the outer ring. It took some patience, but I got it out. The original 3-bolt auto hub assembly was still installed. I had no issues removing the other rings and washers. I was able to use a hammer and flathead to remover the rounded 6-sided spindle lock nut. I'm going back with the 3 piece 4-prong conversion kit from Warn.
Good idea
You should have no trouble running those hubs, and now you know how they go together
Probably ought to pull the spindles and grease the spindle bearings while you are in there
There is a special tool slide hammer adapter to pull the spindle
Makes it easy
