Trying to do the ball joints myself and have got down to this plate that covers the axle and from some of the YouTube videos, this comes off to remove the axle,
I can see it’s tough and did get the nuts off but this thing is like it’s welded on
i have been try to pry and hammer with a chisel but is there another way.IAm I going about this all the wrong way

Use the thinnest chisel you've got and alternate between 10 o'clock and 2 o'clock.
I've read where people put a nut on the spindle and used a slide puller but I've never done it that way.

They make a special tool to use with a slide hammer that makes it easy to remove the spindle
They have 3 thread sizes and work on Explorer / Ranger, F150 and 250 LD, F350 and 250 HD
Used a dead blow and / or a hammer and chisel for years before these puller tools came out.
Worth the 70 bucks IMO

OTC 7502 or Lisle 22200
