Default Lowering 1990 F150 Ext Cab 4.9L

I'm getting older and the arthritis is getting worse. It's getting harder to swing my leg up to get in. I'm thinking about lowering my ride a couple or 3 inches. I don't know much of anything about lowering. From what I've seen on YouTube it will involve replacing the front springs and shocks and putting a lowering shackle on the leaf springs.

The edge of the door threshold (rocker) sits ~17" off the ground. I'd like to see 14" but from what I've found, 2" lower springs are most common. Are 3" springs available reasonably priced? I've also read that you don't want to lower the front and back the same amount. Why is that? (or did I read it wrong) If I were to lower the front 2-3 inches, how much should I lower the back . . . _" _"

What else do I need to know? Where should I go to read up on the procedure? Where is a good place to buy parts? Are there kits that include everything I'll need?

My SIL will help me do this; so don't worry about an old timer not being up to it.

No, it's MUCH harder than that to alter the ride height of a TIB/TTB suspension properly. If you do it cheaply or wrong, the truck will be dangerous to drive, and will wear out the tires rapidly.

Buy cab steps, and be done with it.

I'm also new to these trucks. Just picked up this one from a neighbor and looking to level it out and lower it. It's a 1990 2wd with the 302. Any information on what parts to use would be appreciated. I'm looking to drop the front 1.5"-2" and level the back with that. I'm also looking for recommendations on tire size. I plan to drive it occasionally for a few years and then hand it down to my son as his first truck.
