Default Brake grinding

My drivers side front brakes are making a very bad sound. Sounds like something is scraping, and I can feel it in the whole truck when coming to a stop. The closer I am to stopping, the worse it sounds. This wheel has always given me trouble, and I want to know what the problem is before I go into it because I need a sledgehammer to get the wheel off (its pretty messed up). The truck is a 93 F150 XLT with the 5.0.

Could be a caliper sticking, a stuck pad, or it really could just be the pads are trashed. Does it only make noise when you push the brake?

Sledge to get wheel off??? Start pounding, you will need to remove it to likely find no lining material left on pads.

Then it's likely a sticking brake pad slide (just had the issue on my '16) or a sticking caliper. Lift the front of the truck and spin the front wheels by hand (if not 4x4) and see if you have resistance from the driver's side. It should spin pretty easy and freely.

You're talking about a 2wd truck right? 4x4 adds other things that could be grinding.

The '93-back caliper can't stick due to the way it's mounted to the knuckle (rubber-filled stainless keys), and the pads have no slide pins (1 stainless clip per inner pad - the outer doesn't slide).

To see how the brakes are put together, and how to service them, read the relevant captions in this photo album:

Put all the truck's details into your signature as this caption explains:

A good used replacement wheel is inexpensive & worth buying.

I took the wheel off, and the rotor has been carved into and the brakes are stuck on. I believe i'm going to have to replace the whole assembly, and while i'm at it I might as well fix the hub so the wheel is easy to get back on.
