I changed wheel cylinders, shoes, drums, spring kit, and adjusters on the rear brakes of my 94 XLT. While doing this I had to replace one brake line from the driver side wheel cylinder to the junction that meets the front brake line and passenger side brake line. Everything went well......until it was time to bleed.
I bought a CAPRI Tools vacuum brake bleeder just for this job because I'd rather not have this job cause a divorce when I ask my wife to help me bleed the brakes. Anyway, I have vacuumed almost two quarts of brake fluid out of the passenger
rear brake bleeder and I'm still getting air. I went to the driver side......same thing. I tried a front brake and got solid fluid. What am I doing wrong? Or is it the bleeder?
A minor leak somewhere, improper procedure could be drawing in air or a bleeder/ hose issue. I bleed brakes by myself with a precut piece of wood to hold the pedal about 2/3 down wedged between the pedal and the seat while I tighten down the bleed screw. Clear hose will tell me if any air is still present. I can bleed all fours in less than 30 minutes.A quart or slightly more should be able to do all four.
if your going to use the vacuum bleeder your going to have to pull the bleeder screws out and seal them with teflon tape. this will get you about 85 to 90% and good enough to drive if your conservative
in order to get all the air your going to have to use a pressure bleeder, you can also use the vacuum with it to, that's what I did, the reason is the vacuum bleeder will note get all the air out of your ABS valve, ask me how I know
I will say one caveat, the capri will generate more vacuum then the vacuum bleeder I use so you might possibly get the air out of the abs valve with it on a high setting,
I would do everything twice if attempting only the vacuum method:
Passenger Rear, Drivers Rear, ABS valve, Passenger Front, Drivers Front
Passenger Rear, Drivers Rear, Passenger Front, Driver Front, then ABS valve last
