Timing Chain Jumped, NEW Engine needed?
I have a 2010 F150 XLT Super Crew, 5.4 V8, lifted 8-inches, 142,000 miles.
My timing chaining jumped ahead. My mechanic is telling me its best to place the engine...$9000 Ford motor and labor.
I am having trouble deciding to do it or take my losses. I owe $4000 on the truck. I am a family guy, single income, so money doesn't grow on any trees in my yard. Any thoughts are appreciated.

a proper diagnosis needs to be done. maybe you got lucky, maybe you didn't.
but whats the cost of timing job on those motors? I'd have to imagine a couple grand due to labor alone. Something to compare, I know funds are an issue but say you got lucky and can do a timing job for $3500 or whatever it is do you wanna put that in a motor approaching 150k that could suffer some other catastrophic failure? Another option being to look at long blocks from other sources that may be cheaper but I know nothing about quality/reputation on those

I did get two opinions, both recommended a new Ford motor. One estimate was $11k, the other $9k (friend of mine who has a shop). Both mechanics specialize in Ford trucks.
The labor hours are high, thats the killer. One said a Jasper motor is an option, but only 3 yr warranty and little savings.
I don't have any experience with new motors, not sure if its worth it or not.

they are interference motors so definitely could be carnage inside.
its if you really wanna put 10k into that truck or not.
if they do the motor Id make sure it gets new water pump and all that other fun stuff while its out and accessible
