Default rebuild or replace with newer engine?

I recently purchased a 1994 F150 4x4 supercab 5-speed manual 5.0L 302, it runs good but has 178,000 miles and has lost a lot of power. I have time and a little money. Should I rebuild the existing engine or buy a crate engine?

If I get a crate engine should I get a newer model engine?
If I rebuild the existing engine are there any recommended modifications to improve its performance that are not too expensive?

Thanks,
Kevin

I would look into what caused the power loss. The motor may just need a good tune up and a new clutch. But if your looking to bump up the power I would go with a rebuild. New pistons rings and vavle train and clutch. A off Idle RV cam.
Crate motors are nice but you can run in to alot of different problems with mounting and bolting up the tranny. And could cost alot of money
