I have a 67 Galaxie with the 390 in my family. It had a 2 barrel intake with an adapter plate and a 4 barrel 750cfm carb atop her, Ran ok for years but not great. Then we got a Holley 2 barrel 500 and bolted that up, it’s never ran better. Im sure there any many who would oppose the 500cfm on a big block but the 390 is an odd motor. Also had a Holley on an old 351m and the Fords seems to prefer them.

A 390with stock truck heads is not the most free flowing I had a 351 W stroked to 396 with edelbrock heads it was dyno tuned with a Holley hp 600 cfm . Unfortunately the only way to be sure is Dyno tuning or some sort of air fuel setup

The 8867 comes up as 600 cfm, so it's adequate for a typical 390. It's a copy of the Carter AFB/AVS (depending on whether it has mechanical or vacuum operated secondaries) and is a decent carb. In proper order they run fine, but it's a considerable undertaking to perform any significant tuning adjustments on them, with the exception of idle speed and mixture. Holley's are a walk in the park to dial in, I love 'em.

Put an old style Autolite 4100 on it. As simple a carb as you can get. There are two sizes, 500 and 600cfm. Works great on a 390, I am using one on a 429 build. OLY
