Default Long tube headers

So I have a 90 f150 5.0 auto. Wanted to put some long tube headers on it. Do you have to re flash your trucks computer for that? Do you just install and not make any changes to the computer? If so how do you get any performance from it? I've installed BBK LT'S on my 04 gt. So I'm not worried about installation. Just need to know if the computer needs to be tuned. Thanks.

I guess if you go cattless you will get a CEL. When I put some BBK long tube headers with their catted x pipe on my 2011 v6 Mustang I didn't get a CEL for over a month. Took me that long to order a new new tunes. The new tunes didn't give me more power that I had before the retune for the headers. The extra power was there with the first drive after I installed the long tubes.

Install them and see. I know people on a Corvette Forum I'm on that have ran long tubes for years without a tune.

Good luck

Thanks for the input. I think I'm going to stick with the stock manifold. The long tubes sound like a headache. I just figured $200 for the performance was a good deal. Not if they're going to make it run like crap though.

Deleting the cats will not cause the CEL to come on as long as you keep the O2 sensor. I deleted the cat on my 94 over 2 years and I never had a problem with the CEL coming on. With that being said I just put on LT Hedman Elite series. They fit perfect, no grinding or cutting on the frame like some posts I read said. But, I did have to modify the brackets for the oil dipstick, coil bracket on the drivers side and the upper intake bracket on the passengers side. Other than that everything fit perfect and there is a place in Michigan called Sweet Thunder Exhaust that will make you up header pipes that are a direct fit for the Hedman Headers (no bending, cutting, welding), plus they look like something that the factory would install if they used LT headers.
