Question New member / IntroI would like to introduce myself and my daughter, Makenna. She purchased a 1995 F 150 extended cab short bed last summer. It is a 302 / 5.0, 4x4 , auto with 174 k.
She drove it all summer and we just started to work on it. I figured it would be a good winter project. I just put on a 4 inch Rough Country Lift. Redid the brakes both front and rear. Rebuilt the front end with new upper and lower ball joints, end links, center link, shocks. Redid the front hub assemblies with bearings and seals. New u joints in front axels. Changes over to manual hubs. Had to replace the heater core. All new hoses. Tunes up with plugs, wires, cap and rotor, PCV. Change both front and rear gear fluid, New rear axels bearings and seals. I just replaced the IAC since it started running bad, suggested by both shops to start.
HOWEVER I am now having an issue and could desperately need help and advise. I decided to degrease the motor just before tuning it up, don't know why I did not do it first, but I did not. Ever since cleaning it, there is a miss and it is not running good, It starts right up and sounds great, but then almost starts to get rough and stall. It starts right back up and sounds good, and does it all over again. It I give it gas, it sounds great. Another issue is on driving it, occasionally you give it gas to accelerate and it does nothing until I put the pedal to the floor, and then it does, but shifting hard. I decided to use a scan tool to check codes, but this does not seem to be working either. I had two shops try their tool and error code on scanner.I tried the jumper paper clip test as well and was able to get the 565 code only, buy think there has to be more. I just bought one on Amazon and tried it today. It seems to work with the KOEO test, getting one code of 565, BUT won't do anything in the KOEO test.
PLEASE any help would be GREATLY appreciated. My daughter is upset and me as well

Suggest since the degreasing and the 'tune-up' seemed to take place about the same time and the problems started right after this, gonna be chasing both a wet problem and a bad new part problem until proven one way or the other.
The times I degreased and hosed off the engine, moisture condensate always collected in the dizzy after the initial start and warm-up - remedy being to pop the cap off and let things air dry thoroughly. I guess one could cautiously use a hair dryer to speed things along, ensuring not to overheat anything, especially the electronic PIP module below the rotor.
Suspicious of the tune-up parts used without sharing the brand-names - had a set of AutoZone Duralast wires with many testing bad right out of the box - pffft. IMO, hard to beat Motorcraft, Standard and other respected top-tier names, couldn't give me anything named Pronto, Duralast, Bronco, or Woods that I now know to be junk.
I hope you've hung onto the old parts - if worse comes to worse, since these were apparently working fine before, may put them back on as part of the process of elimination. Also, from my past experience - double-triple check the wire routings to verify correct firing order from cap to each plug, been tripped up more than once on this little gem.
Never had a 565 code problem, but from what I can tell, it deals with the canister purge / emissions systems, so I don't think it's part of your immediate problems, but certainly something to chase and to remedy down the line.
Good luck and keep us posted.
