The guy who talked about it a lot worked in Michigan for a while and is an old-time motorhead race car guy. I think he just knew people that worked at Ford but didn't work there himself.
Found a 1996 reference. At least it gives some guidance. Page8/1846. Looks like official Ford literature but it came from the internet. They don't really define "necessary" though. Just a distraction...

I wonder if the site administrators know that attachments don't post "in-line" or at the end like they're supposed to. It's a pain reformatting.

If it IS just a wet bolt leak a couple cooling system sealant tablets will fix your problem, but I have my doubts. It sounds like you have enough of a leak that it's not drawing from the recovery bottle.

Fun cannon I would think you could remove just the one head bolt and seal it. I am also 100% positive that the lower head bolts go into the water jacket and need to be sealed. Seems like the po didn't get enough on one or used inferior seal material. Permatex makes a good Teflon sealant.
