Default rumors?

I just got my '90 I6 auto/OD with a few clicks over 80K miles. Some guy , a self proclaimed mechanic, (which I am not) tells me that this engine has a history of the oil pump failing after the 80K range. Is there any truth at all to this claim?
He also tells me if I leave my manual hubs locked all winter it could cause damage in this model year of truck. Any help would be appreciated.

The Ford 300 was one of the most bulletproof motors they ever made. So no, probably not true.

Keeping your manual hubs locked in all of the time in the winter is not really a problem if you are constantly keeping it in 4WD. I know I wouldn't bother unlocking them if I was driving in the snow all of the time.

Thank you sir. I had a feeling. I know the older sixes were great engines but, I wasn't sure if they were always built the same as years went on.

As far as the hubs, I have to make a confession, I only have 1.8 miles from our property to my parking spot at work. But it's on a straight up and down private road. So, even if I use my truck every day I only get about 1,200 miles a year. When the weather permits I break out my old Harley or my '59 Caddy, both are great drivers and a lot of fun.
I still have to have a truck around, you know, just because!

When my Dad passed away a few years ago and I ended up with his 91 truck I started reading about the 4.9l motor. It has a great history, the way this motor was used is amazing. Just do a google search and you'll know what I mean
