Default Pilot bearing

Okay here is the problem, went by everyone's advice and packed end of crankshaft full of grease and took a 3/8 drive extension and packed the end of it full of grease. Three light taps seated the end of extension into bearing and looked promising, one more tap and it pushed the inner part of bearing and extension past outer bearing. After two days was able to get the extension out and now have inner and outer bearing stuck. Went and rented slide hammer and now after to slides the tool slips out, every single time. Has anyone ran into this or know of any suggestions?

I've always used a roll of toilet paper and a bowl of water.. Sounds weird... I know... Wet and stuff as much paper in the pilot bearing as possible... Then use a hammer and 3/8 extension to drive more wet paper in .. And slowly the pilot bearing will start to push out...

I ran into that problem on my '81. Tried all the different tools and tricks and had to resort to a chisel and hammer. Hope you find something better than that!
