Default Oil filter insert removal

My '89 F150 seems to not like any oil filter that isn't a motorcraft. I have in issue where after sitting for over 8 hours or so, the motor seems to be starting up dry, and I hear some clanking for 2 or 3 seconds. But it doesn't happen with an FL1A. Last time I did an oil change, those filters were back-ordered from all of my normal sources, so I used a wix xp filter, and after getting tired of hearing rattling when I start up every morning, I switched it out for a k&n, which was better, but didn't completely fix the problem. I know that ford had a tsb for this exact situation, and I was able to find a dealership that still had that replacement insert (E4TZ-6890-A) In stock, so I have that now. Of course I plan on always using motorcraft filters, but if I ever am in a situation where those filters are not readily available, and my stockpile is empty, Id like to be able to confidently use an alternate filter.
The replacement insert has a hex on it so I can thread it in with a socket. The old insert does not. So I'm just wondering what would be the best way to remove it without damaging it.

2 nuts locked together on it; a stud extractor; an EZ-out; a broken pipe extractor; snap-ring pliers; slip-joint pliers...
