Nobody has posted in a while, so I'll add. My first was an '88 300 with 5 speed manual. Even though I have owned fords before, at the time I bought this truck I was driving a Nissan pickup ($5100 new). Had it one year and my wife said I needed a bigger truck. Never considered anything that didn't have a 300. I bought the cheapest one on the lot with no a/c. Moved south and needed a/c and wanted automatic. In '95, look to trade in my '88 on a '96. The lot had a few early '96 and started getting the new body style of the '97. When I heard it didn't come with a 300, I bought the '96 and figured to keep it for a long time. The truck has had issues but never with the actual engine. My daughter drove it dry until it stopped on the highway from overheating. I filled it with water and it started right up. I think it had over 200,000 miles on it then. Due to distributor problems, I parked it for 3 years. I put a new battery in it and it fired up with the old gas. Both tanks were full with 3 year old gas. Its been a year since then and the truck is running great. Had to fix things that just go bad with age or abuse, but the engine runs as smooth as ever. Every time I ride in it now, it makes me smile. I sold my '06 ford van to the company I work for and that is my company vehicle to use. But as long as they will by my gas, I'll keep driving the truck. It's about to turn 270,000 miles, and shows no signs of quitting. Best $13,000 I've ever spent.

One of my neighbors has a 83 300 6 cylinder. He put a 3/4 ton chassis on a f-150 suspension. He bored the 300 .50 over. with a 4bbl carb and headers. That motor is HOT! He melts the tires right off that everytime without trying.

I always was a chevy guy until I was 21 and wrecked my chevy, after I healed up I needed some wheels to get back and forth to a job I had just started, my uncle told me about an old ford a few miles down the road that I could get cheap. I was pretty apprehensive at first just because it was a ford, but I went ahead and bought the truck with plans to trade or sell it and get another chevy. The truck was a 1994 and had the 4.9L (300) six in it, 4x4, 5 speed transmission with 71,000 miles. I gave it a complete tune-up from top to bottom. I have had incredible service from it, and they are indestructible, this one truck converted me to a ford as I now own 3 ford trucks. I have the 1994 with the 300 six, a 1994 with a 5.8, and a 2005 7.3 powerstroke. I dont do much with the old 300 anymore, I just take it mudding a couple times a month and this truck will go absolutely anywhere, All I have really done to it was put 33 x 12.50 15 inch tires on it, I have great ground clearance and get to laugh at my chevy loving friends while they hook a chain from my truck to theirs. If they ever bring the 300 six back to life I will be among the 1st in line to get one.

I'm envious of y'all with the 4x4 300s and if they do being the big six back ill be among the first to get one also. Make it a turbo and it will be a Ecoboost torque of a V8 and good mileage.

Lightbulb 300-6 turbo build

Hey all. I am rebuilding my 1989 300-6 we got carried away and now are attempting to add a turbo. we upgraded to 19 lb injectors, low compression pistons and have a fuel pressure regulator with a 1:1 ratio that works off the boost.
I was just wondering if any knows the best way to regulate the air and fuel. And do they make a programmer for it ? I will accept any questions comments and advice for this experiment.

They don't make a programer for OBD1 vehicles.

I just bought a 1980 Flairside SWB F-150 with a 300 automatic. This is my first all American vehicle.
It sat idle for a couple of years. My friend and I put a new battery in it and pored some gas in the carb and it fired right up! I aired up the tires gave the owner 1K and drove it home.
Yesterday, we put new plugs, wires, cap and rotor on it and it just purrs. It does have a rear main seal leak. I'm going to try an additive to stop that. I really like this truck and hope to be posting up the redo on this site.
Is there a place on this site that gives the measurements for the wood bed slats? They need replacing.
