Upgrading non-HID headlights
#11
I just recently replaced my stock bulbs for some Piaa Xtreme white Plus H13 and H10 bulbs for the fogs. I paid right at 100$ for both and free shipping through Amazon prime. They are a bit pricier than any of the other few mentioned, but not by much. I love the light output and would highly recommend them.
The HL's were replaced and the bottom is still stock so you can see the diff. in color.

It's just the light pattern. I've never noticed mine being a sharp rectangular pattern like that. It looks almost like you have different housings. Interesting.

Ahhh. Yeh. I never noticed that either until I parked close enough to the garage to make sure the HL adjustment didn't move when I replaced the bulbs.

I'm not sure how you could possibly call the Sylvanias an "unnoticeable difference" over stock. There is a world of difference. The photos I posted above are of the silverstar ultras. Are you saying that stock halogen bulbs will put out that light? I can't imagine many people wanting to replace their stock bulbs if that was the case, unless they were upgrading to HID.
There was no re-aiming needed, and I was never flashed with them.
If you are careful in the install, clean the bulbs with alcohol, wear gloves, and do not touch the glass, they should last plenty long. I ran them in my 04 F150 for the 3 years I had it, ran them in my 01 mustang for a year, ran them in my 04 mustang for 2 years, and ran them in my 06 f150 for 2 years. Never had a bulb go out on me and never had any appreciable loss of output in any of them. I also had them in my 13 F150 for a year without issue, till I installed my OEM HIDs. I cannot speak to the Philips bulbs notes, as I've always had good luck with the Silverstars and SS Ultras, so I never tried them.

I've put Silverstars in every vehicle I've owned, and I've never had one blow. The light output is night/day above stock.

So they are not really all that much brighter than stock, though they appear that way due to the colour temperature differences and the human eye's characteristics (or rather the brain, as it's the ol' cabbage that actually does the processing). Ergo - perception.
All the same wattage so none of them 'burn' any hotter, lol
And - they are good for about a year of use. After that, output starts to drop gradually. Which is why most do not notice. But, measurements prove it is indeed occurring. Perception again.
Perception is, as they say, everything.
Now - a high quality HID capsule is on the order of 3,500-4,000 lumens @ 35 watts, 4300K, with a 1500-2000 hour life ( and yep, they fade too). Just for comparison ( assuming a proper projector is used, not a light-scattering halogen reflector).

Those numbers don't show what they look like in a side-by-side comparison. Change one bulb then compare them. It's obvious the Silverstars illuminate more than the stock bulbs.
Yes, they fade, but I've never had to buy a second set for any vehicle I've owned.
