Thank you for weighing in. This is my third vehicle with aftermarket HIDs, all 6000K because I like a little blue tint and 55w so I can reach out into the darkness. The first had projector lights; the second is my C5 Corvette. One thing I will say is that the headlights must be re-aimed after changing the bulbs, projector or not. The projector lights were hitting the overhead road signs when I got it back from the dealer. I was getting flashed a lot before I re- aimed them, then flashed very little after aiming. The Corvette was the same way (needed adjustment). I installed the lamps in the Corvette and my F-150 which also needed adjustment. It takes me about four hours to do a really good job of installation where nothing shows.

At my age (watch out), I do not see the projector lamps as an improvement necessarily but a trend mostly among imports and higher- end vehicles. I am open for rebuttal on this point. I had a Pontiac G8 which was built in Australia. Most headlamp assemblies that I see today have a horizontal line reflecting from the assembly to adjust by. Very simple to perform.

Oh the thing about hitting people from behind- truck lights are high in the first place. The bright lights do allow you to count the strands of hair on the back of someone's head. The simple solution in my opinion is to stay back a little. You can tell where your headlights hit the car in front of you.

As far as I am concerned, if you drive outside of the city limits much, HIDs are the way to go.

I am looking forward to seeing more information about HIDs!

The only time I get blinded is when the headlights are not aimed correctly. I do find, however that with the HIDs, when you flip an oncoming vehicle to dim their lights, they usually pay attention right smartly.

edit: removed original reply to prevent troll war. let me just say this: in addition to being illegal in many areas, ghetto HID makes the vehicle look like cr@p.

furthermore, they do not illuminate the key area of the road as well as traditional halogens. they only appear brighter because they scatter the light all over the place in a messy fashion. it is not until they are housed inside proper projectors that they become superior, although some of the deepest blue are inferior to halogen, even though they look awesome in my opinion.

to sum it up, ghetto lights look bad, don't work as well, cost more, are illegal, and annoy other drivers. knowing that, why would anyone want them?

Again I don't really care. All that matters to me is I can see.

as previously explained, your visibility of the key area of the road is actually worse with ghetto lights.

Hopefully a bigger truck with same setup as you doesnt come at you on a two lane road and blinds the f*** out of you and you swerve into the ditch... Maybe then you'll realize to think of other drivers.

All mothers once said as their kid gets their license, im not worried about your driving, its the idiots out there im worried about.

Aaand I unsubscribed. ive been in too many of these arguements...

I'm in with f150cam. I hear a lot of opinion, but nothing based on experience or actual research. Unsubscribing. Good bye.

i realize this guy has unsubscribed, but i'm not going to let such a stupid comment go by without responding to it anyhow:

he fails based on his own criteria.

this thread is full of people who have posted and have "experience" with HID lighting. fail #1

i myself posted about "actual research", which can be easily looked up, in which it has been shown through luminosity tests that HID in non projector housings actually provide inferior coverage of the key area of the road in front of the vehicle. the extra lumens are "wasted" by being skattered in other directions which do not aid in visibility of the road. fail#2

and for the final fail: making a snooty little comment about how he's unsubscribing from a thread, like it's a big deal or that anyone (other than myself) would even care.
