Default Headlight NIghtmare

I'm at my wits end here. I have an 18 XLT and upgraded the headlights to the AlphaRex Pro Series. I switched out the halogens for Hikari LED's and they were so dull that it was actually dangerous to drive at night in rural IL where I live. So, i changed to the HID Kit that Alpha Rex sold me and all was fine until last week when one headlight went out (after maybe 1 month of use). Took it back in (i am not mechanically inclined, sorry) and they switched bulbs and found it must have been the ballast. So i had bought an entirely new set of Morimoto HIDs (the full kit) and had them switched out. Get in the truck to pick it up yesterday and the lights work. Driving home (which is an hour away), halfway there the headlights both go out. It is only dusk so i am able to get to the rest stop where I shut the truck down, wait 30 seconds and restart it. Both headlights come back on. Then after another 5 min of driving one of the headlights shuts off. So i pull over again, restart the truck and they both work... 5 minutes later the same headlight goes out again.

On top of that there are 2 black spots when the 2 headlights are on right in the middle of the road. These were not there with the AlphaRex HID kit but only with the MOrimoto kit. I've added an LED Pushbar on the front of the truck hooked up for brights but it's just an ongoing f'ing nightmare at this point. Any ideas?

I do want to note that on the headlight housing all the turn signals, daytime running lights on the side and parking lights all work just fine. The startup, unlock and lock sequence all works fine as well.

its hard to say whats going on without seeing the wiring. there are many different ways ppl install HIDs tapping different locations for power and different inputs. It sucks that this is going on with your setup, do you have any idea what the installer did and wired or was it just a drop off pickup deal? The black spots happen because of the projector and bulb shape/length. If you compare the two you will see they are different. if the first ones looked better that was the ideal size/shape. In these new trucks its not easy to get to the lights, I always remove them which is a process some ppl go at it thru the fenderwells.

I was told that they used the Morimoto relay harness. The relay gets power and ground from the battery and are triggered from the passenger side headlight plug. The harness has it's own power leads for the drivers side ballast so the driver headlight plug is unused.

Not sure if that helps???

That's how its supposed to be run. I've read that others have had problems with the morimoto HID as well. Sounds like ur relay may not be triggering properly if it comes back on. Take a look and see what type of relay they used. If it's a standard relay you can grab one from auto parts store and swap to eliminate the easy part. Also check to see if the harness to headlight plug is tight as well as power and ground. The ground should goto the post by fender not the battery

you need a forscan to change the output from pulsing current to constant current mode when using HID.
