Default '14 Lariat Projector... to refractor?

My dad is in his 70's and does a lot of country driving. He has a '14 Lariat and they came with OEM projector light housing. He complains about the headlight beams getting cut off at the sides. If he's turning into the driveway there is no light and he can't see. My uncle has a similar F150 but its a base model with refactor housing. You can see the sides a lot better.

Has anyone gone from an OEM projector to a refractor housing for a similar problem? Are the bulbs the same fitting? Was thinking of just trying a pair of aftermarket refractor lenses on Amazon and seeing if they work. I don't have an F-150. Any recommendations for specific headlights / bulbs that would work in a Lariat to help solve this?

Thanks

The bulbs are different.

OEM Projectors use HID Bulbs. OEM Reflectors use H13 bulbs.

I'd recommend just buy some new headlights from Morimoto. It's a huge upgrade. We stock them and offer great pricing on our site.

the diode dynamics fogs made a huge difference in light off to the side a reasonable distance in front of the truck. Also something to consider and far cheaper.

Spending $1000+ in headlights wouldn't be in the cards for him. I was afraid the OEM projectors used a special HID bulb that wasn't compatible with aftermarket refractors.

@dsg2003mach1 Are you referring to the LED bulbs or the for light kit that replaces the housing? I have used better fogs to get past this issue with my Charger. Maybe that would be the better route.

Strange. Projectors usually have a nice wide beam with sharp cutoff. Maybe there is something wrong with the bulb in the housing.

replace the entire stock fog light assembly with a setup from diode dynamics. They have their cube LED assembly, they should have a truck specific one that has a new housing to fit the opening. The ones for my truck uses stock mounting points so no drilling or anything. They usually do some sales around the holidays like everyone else. I went with the normal strength fogs in white and they go pretty darn wild. Theres a two lane road into my neighborhood and on both sides they light up across the ditch and onto the wall

The wiring is different. It is not plug and play.

You can get pretty much any decent fog lights. I run some LED switchback fogs and they illuminate the sides very well. It’s a cheap plug and play fix that I would recommend.
